Biomedical Laboratory Sciences


Biomedical Laboratory Sciences is a scientific area inherent to the clinical-laboratorial research. This course requires the acquisition of solid knowledge on a wide range of exact, biological, medical and social sciences, which sustain the understanding of the enormous importance of laboratory on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, monitoring and prevention of disease, physiopathology, epidemiology, identification of statistical techniques appropriate for an accurate interpretation of results, accomplishment of research projects, knowledge of laboratory good practices and also ethical and legal issues.

The Biomedical Laboratory Sciences course aims to major graduates with a professional profile characterized by a set of capabilities and skills allowing them to perform, develop, evaluate, correlate and ensure precision and accuracy of laboratory indicators. Basically, it intends to enable newly graduates to perform whether integrated into a multidisciplinary team in different areas of clinical analysis, namely, in the ambit of Clinical Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Hematology, Immuno-Hematology, Histocompatibility, Genetics and Public Health, or in the area of teaching and research.


Graduates in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences might perform their activity in different contexts, such as:

  • National Health System Clinical Technician, private laboratories, public health, histocompatibility, genetics, research and industrial laboratories, among others;

  • Teaching and research in Higher Education Institutions.
